The Embera-Wounaan are a group of semi-nomadic Indians in Panama living in the province of Darien at the shores of the Chucunaque, Sambu, Tuira Rivers and its water ways. The Embera-Wounaan were formly and widely known by the name "Chocos" or "Choco Indians", because of their origin and/or language.

They are short. Women wear colorful cloths from the waist down with flowers on their heads and necklaces and men wear loincloths.

Their government is political and administrative, with General Chiefs as maximum authority and sahilas for each village.

The Embera-Wounaan have gardens near them and eat typical foods like masata. There is a population of these Indians of 8,246. They hunt and fish and make wood crafts.
